HomeLonger FAQs

1. What is HomeLonger?
HomeLonger is a comprehensive lifestyle and care management program designed to help people remain in their homes as they age by providing personalized assistance, services, and amenities. The program is the first in Middle Tennessee, and the only one in the country affiliated with an organization such as INSPIRIS, which has been a trusted provider of senior services for over 10 years.

There is no typical client experience, but we maintain a steady focus on support and empowerment. We respect privacy, yet you can count on us to be there when needed. For some clients, this means having us accompany them to the doctor, check in with them frequently, and arrange for various third-party services, such as physical therapy or in-home meal delivery. Other clients may simply want a one-time assessment or daily monitoring with only minimal additional contact.

2. What are the benefits of becoming a HomeLonger member?
Membership in HomeLonger provides, at no additional cost, the following:
• One phone number to call for assistance or for help services
• Prompt, friendly and professional customer service
• Access to pre-screened vendors
• Discounts on services
• Transportation to and from medical appointments when your doctor advises you not to drive
• Free emergency preparedness review
• Daily personal telephone check-in service (if desired)
• Members-only website with a members forum
• Members-only social and cultural activities
• Members-only directory of fellow members

• Social connections & Safety Net
• Peace of mind

3. What are some examples of services you can provide?
Assist a couple who has recently downsized from their suburban home to a new development targeted at 55+ residents. The member has access to concierge services during the move and while getting settled in their new residence and community. Our Lifestyle Care Manager visits the members after move-in to insure the condominium has the necessary amenities and safety measures in place for a successful transition. The care manager also coordinates new physician, pharmacy, and specialist access if needed.

Assist a client who has a cardiologist appointment by organizing her questions for her, sending her reminders about the date and time, arranging for a ride to the doctor's office, and following up after she returns. This client is reassured by the regular contact we provide, and she has opted for the HomeLonger INSPIRED LIVING package.

Visit a couple in their home for a one-time assessment by our pharmacist to help make sense of various prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, and treatment instructions. This couple only wants assistance with their medications and has not requested other services.

Work with a client who was recently released from a rehabilitation hospital. After helping her assess the situation and identify her needs, we also helped stabilize her situation and implement a care plan for continued healthy living.

Check in with a client who likes to receive a weekly phone call. The call is a good way to discuss important health information—and it is also enjoyable for this client, who likes companionship and conversation.

Facilitate a client's appointment with his physician by writing out the important questions he wants to ask. We also provided him with a print-out of key data regarding his vital signs, measured through telemonitoring, and this data helped his doctor make a more informed decision about our client's care.

Help a client get a referral for a new doctor—a geriatrician—who will treat his healthcare situation with a more holistic approach. We then assist the client in getting an appointment and make a plan to accompany him to the doctor's office.

Perform a thorough in-home healthcare assessment, conducted by a Registered Nurse, for a client who is not yet sure how she might make use of all of our services. She enjoys both independence and privacy, and she hopes to maintain both.

Make phone calls to locate some third-party service providers for a client who has housework and yard work tasks to be done—and who is also looking for an in-home hairdresser.

4. What if I'd like assistance arranging those services that involve a fee?
HomeLonger membership gives you access to a wide range of service providers who offer everything from personal transportation to plumbing to grocery delivery to gutter cleaning and more. We've done the work of screening these providers so you don't have to, and we've made arrangements with many of them to provide discounts to HomeLonger members.

You can contact the HomeLonger staff and ask them to coordinate the details for you, or use your members-only directory (available in both a printed and an online format) and make your own arrangements. It's your choice.

5. What if I need help with something that's not on the list?
Just ask! HomeLonger staff is here to help.

6. Will HomeLonger members receive special attention from medical establishments?
Yes, thanks to alliances created by HomeLonger, staff will facilitate relationships with medical providers as well. Your HomeLonger staff members will be happy to discuss these details with you at your convenience.

7. What is the incentive to become a member while I am still in good health?
As with insurance, HomeLonger membership allows you to be prepared for the unexpected, and provides you with a safety net of support should you require it. HomeLonger membership offers a sense of belonging to a group, and strengthens your ties to the community. Our dedicated HomeLonger staff is here to enhance your lifestyle by helping you deal with tasks you previously had to handle on your own. As a member, you have the option to upgrade to a higher level of membership when needed or even on a temporary basis.

8. Who can join?
Currently, the program is open to adults 50+ who live in congregated Independent Living Settings.

9. What are the payment options?
Members have the choice of paying a discounted rate annually, or monthly by credit card at no extra cost.

10. Can I buy a membership for my parents, friends or relatives?
Yes, gift memberships are available, and are a thoughtful way to show your loved ones you care about their well-being. Your parents can avail themselves of as many of the membership benefits as they'd like. It's their choice. This is a gift that provides both you and your parents with invaluable peace of mind.
